Overview: Numerous studies have shown the healing power of laughter. In nursing, humor can help patients alleviate tension, improve their recovery experience, and even improve their physical well-being positively impacting their overall health. Nurses can use humor to foster relationships with their patients so that their patients trust them and feel comfortable to receive the care they need. Of course, humor can be disruptive if not used properly; good judgment is necessary to know what kind of jokes are appropriate and when. This session will focus on the function of humor in nursing with strategies for nurses on appropriate uses of humor in daily practice, to improve outcomes for patients and brighten their mood.

By the end of this webinar, you’ll be able to:

  • Define the nature and function of humor in clinical settings.
  • Identify the most appropriate use of humor in clinical settings and with specific types of patients.
  • Review strategies when humor is useful in dealing with extreme clinical stress and to produce a healing response in patients.
