Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions. We have answers. (It's why we're here.)

Does having my own policy make me a more likely target for a lawsuit?

No. When a patient is injured, most attorneys will name everyone who was involved in the patients' care in the lawsuit, whether you have your own coverage or not. And no one knows, not even the patient's lawyer, that you have your own professional liability insurance.

Why do I need an individual professional liability policy? Won't my employer's insurance policy cover me?

Professional liability insurance safeguards you against allegations of malpractice. While your employer may provide coverage for you, it may not be enough to cover you in all cases. Your employer's policy is designed to preserve the employers' needs and interests first.

I just changed jobs. Will I have to pay more for my liability insurance?

Changing jobs alone will not affect your premium. For instance, if you took a nursing position in a nursing home after a similar job in a hospital, your rate wouldn't change. However, if you move from being an employee to an independent contractor, that may affect your premium.

There are plenty more where those came from.
